I spent a couple of days in Brentwood bay painting this scene when the owner of this vessel and gave me some backround on his boat and the name Vi Skaliva
I painted this blue vessel down at the dock downtown Victoria. It was a cool foggy day,and I was able to spend a longer time completing this as the light was consistant. 10"x14" in oils.
I painted this coastguard vessel in Esquimalt overlooking a very busy Victoria Harbor. This is definately one of my favorite spots to paint. To my left is the arbutus trees I painted the next day. 10"x14" in oils
Had a very specific image in mind when I painted this, and I'm greatful that I have the opportunity to paint these again at a later date, practice makes perfect!
This was very difficult to photograph, had a tough time with reflecting oil off the canvas.
One of my favorite fruits, mangos yum! these grew in abundance in south africa and indulged in this delicious fruit often. Enjoyed painting it as much as I'm gonna eat it lol!
As usual leavin everything to the last minute lol! This was one of the more challenging paintings, didnt think I'd get this dun on time to take a pic of it before sundown, there was just enough daylight to take a pic. Whew! May have to re-take tomorrow.
Oils (5"x7") Well the prize at the end of it all is improvement, I'm looking forward to seeing the difference between now and the one hundredth painting down the rd
Oils (5"x7") Just returned from painting this little scene around the corner from my house. Only had a tiny window to finish this as I was chased away.
Painting #6! I've painted this old pot before, so familiar to me, love the subtle contrasts when painting a reflective surface, now to chop up the onion for dinner!
Oils (5"x7") Well here it is, painting no. 2! It's been a crazy busy day and completing this painting was definately a challenge! two down hundreds to go.....
Well here it is, my first completed painting for the day! Found these books at the local library, wanted to create that olde world feeling, hope u enjoy it as much as I enjoyed painting it!
My name's Naomi Grindlay, originally from Southern Africa, made my way to Canada just over a decade ago. Great move! I love Canada! Especially Vancouver Island, spent a fair bit of my time painting en pleine aire, one of my favorite pastimes.
The paintings on this blog are all painted en pleine aire and the still life are painted from life.
